Food packaging and MAP

Nitrogen for
MAP packaging processes.

Modified-atmosphere packaging requires gas supply, product requirements and line operation to fit together. MX Solutions supports the technical assessment of an application-led nitrogen supply.

01 Process context

Gas supply follows
the packaging process.

Nitrogen can be part of a protective atmosphere. The suitable gas composition and quality are determined by the product, process and approved operational requirements.

Product and line

Products, pack volume, cycle rate, flushing method and number of lines define the load profile.

  • no generic gas recipe
  • peak and base load
  • planned expansion

Quality requirements

Required gas quality and monitoring must be aligned with quality and process responsibility.

  • internal specifications
  • measurement and test concept
  • documentation

Supply reliability

Buffering, operating strategy and possible reserve are matched to production risk and load profile.

  • shift operation
  • critical downtime
  • maintenance windows
02 System design

From air inlet
to packaging line.

Compressed-air treatment, nitrogen generation, storage, distribution and measurement form one supply chain.

Clean basis

Compressed-air condition and existing treatment are included in the assessment.

Demand-led generation

Generation principle and size follow the load profile and confirmed process requirements.

Defined interface

Pressure, quality, measuring point and responsibility boundary are clearly described at handover.

03 Responsibility

Technical gas supply follows
the confirmed process specification.

MX Solutions does not issue blanket approvals for product, packaging or gas recipe. Those requirements remain with the responsible quality and process functions; supply is matched to their confirmed specifications.

Capture specifications

Approved process requirements and test plans form the technical basis.

Clarify interfaces

Equipment, line and operator responsibilities are separated before implementation.

Reassess changes

New products, cycle rates or lines can change demand and should be reviewed again.

04 Questions

Common questions,
straight answers.

Is nitrogen alone the right protective atmosphere?

That depends on product and packaging method. MX Solutions does not define a generic gas recipe; it uses the approved process specification.

What data is needed for a MAP system?

Product and line data, gas specification, consumption or cycle rate, pressure, operating hours and quality/testing requirements.

Can an existing supply system be reused?

Possibly. Condition, capacity, gas quality, measurement and reserve need to be compared with the future load profile.

05 MAP project

Separate gas supply
from product approval.

Packaging and quality owners define gas composition, residual oxygen, hygiene and test requirements. MX Solutions plans technical supply against those confirmed requirements.

Operator inputs

  • product and packaging method
  • line type, number and cycle
  • approved gas and quality requirements
  • average and peak demand
  • test, documentation and reserve needs

Technical scope

  • air treatment and generation
  • buffering and distribution to the line
  • measurement and handover point
  • material and hygiene interfaces
  • maintenance and failure concept
No shelf-life or food-safety guarantee: results depend on the complete product and packaging process, not the generator alone.
Next step

New line or rising gas demand?
Start with process data.

Send product, line and consumption information plus any approved quality specification. MX Solutions will structure the technical pre-assessment.
